Goodwill in the News : Black & Gold Super Bowl Mania Spawns
Crossing Dressing Shopping Spree at Goodwill New Orleans
Popular Deceased Sportscaster Vowed to Wear a Dress if
Saints made it to the Big Bowl
2/3/2010
(New
Orleans) Cross dressing males spawned a mini-boon for retail stores
of Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana, Inc. over the
weekend. The spirited fun was all in honor of the legendary and
deceased New Orleans sportscaster Buddy Diliberto who vowed to march
on Bourbon Street in a dress if the Saints ever made it to the Super
Bowl.
What started as an idea late last week grew organically
into a full blown Mardi Gras style parade led by the "Cajun Cannon"
Bobby Hebert, WWL AM sportscaster and former NFL quarterback for the
New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons. Hebert told his male
listeners to man up! and don a dress to join him for Buddy & Bobbys
Brawds Bunch of Men March last Sunday, which drew an estimated crowd
of 87,000 people!
Radio announcers at WWL AM, an Entercom-owned
station, suggested to their listeners to get their dresses at
Goodwill and hundreds of them answered the call. Many members of the
Who Dat nation flocked to local Goodwills and they werent just
looking for regular old dresses. Formal wear flew off the racks
along with accessories to match! More than 500 dresses were sold in
just three days with sales expected to grow in anticipation of
Sundays game.
Next up, Goodwill will dress up the Bobby
Hebert standees at area Helms Painting Supply stores featuring
Benjamin Moore paint. Goodwill of Southeastern Louisiana, Inc. is
also expected to get product placement in a campy Benjamin Moore
radio spot airing game day about where guys got their dresses from
for the big game parties.
