EPA AWARDS GOODWILL BROWNFIELDS JOB TRAINING GRANT

EPA AWARDS GOODWILL BROWNFIELDS JOB TRAINING GRANT

Goodwill And Community Partners Slated To Provide Training That Leads to Sustainable Employment in Environmental Field

NEW ORLEANS – March 7 – The EPA has awarded Goodwill of Southeastern Louisiana a $200,000 brownfields job training grant. Goodwill, in conjunction with BFA Environmental Consultants, Limitless Vistas, Inc., Louisiana Technical College and JOB1, will work together to train vulnerable youth to be true stewards of their environment.

The training program will offer certifications in HAZWOPER, mold, and asbestos abatement, and OSHA construction safety. Additional training will include coursework in engineering, debris removal, and federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations. Students will be recruited by Goodwill, JOB1, and Limitless Vistas, Inc., from neighborhoods in District B of Orleans Parish, which includes the Central City Neighborhood. Graduates will be placed in environmental jobs.

The brownfields job training grants provide residents of the communities impacted by brownfields with the skills and training needed to effectively gain employment in assessment and cleanup activities associated with brownfield redevelopment and environmental remediation.

Goodwill and the program partners believe that the timing and location of the training will play a vital role in helping rehabilitate a community and population in need of renewal.
